Choice TV launched on Saturday 28th April 2012 on the Freeview digital platform, and on Freeview satellite on 5th July. On September 1st 2012, the network launched on SKY Channel 78 (Now on Sky Channel 26 as of May 1st 2013), as part of SKY's basic package. It is New Zealand's first broad appeal free-to-air TV channel launched in more than a decade and offers viewers an exciting and interesting range of programmes twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
Choice TV's programming centres on entertainment, information and lifestyle content from around the world. To achieve this, major shareholder Top Shelf Productions (one of New Zealand's leading production companies) has acquired unique and previously unseen international content; programmes that tap into the tastes and interests of many Kiwi viewers with themes like property, homes, travel, gardening, food, design, comedy and drama.
Choice TV recently announced the strategic investment by Blue Ant Media, which will result in it becoming the majority shareholder of Choice TV.
Blue Ant Media, one of Canada’s largest independent media companies, produces and distributes content globally for targeted categories including lifestyle, nature, music and travel. The company engages fans across television, digital, magazines and live events. Blue Ant owns and operates 10 consumer media brands, including Cottage Life, Travel+Escape, Oasis and Smithsonian Channel Canada.
Our management team:
Julia Baylis is Co-Founder, and General Manager at Choice TV. She has spent the past five years as Head of Programming and Acquisitions for Living Channel and Food TV. Prior to this Julia spent eight years with Television New Zealand in the Programming area of the company – the majority of her time with the network as Head of Programming for TV2.
Vincent Burke is Co-Founder and a Director of Choice TV. He established Top Shelf Productions in 1988 and has made iconic documentary and factual programming including iconic series like Target, What's Really In Our Food?, Immigrant Nation, Frontier Of Dreams and Media 7.
Holly Pollock is General Manager of Production Funding and Marketing at Choice TV and has been part of the management team for the last two years. Holly has spent the last fourteen years in commercial radio starting in the UK and then moving to NZ working at Classic Hits both in promotions and programming; predominantly as the National Promotions Manager. Most recently she has been the National Marketing Manager for More FM and The Breeze.
Fiona Murray is Programme Manager at Choice TV. Fiona previously worked in the UK for BBC Worldwide as a Programming Executive for two years buying for the Asian, Indian & Italian territories across all genres as well as specialising on channel launches for the Acquisition department.
Morgan Colmore-Williams is the Manager of Broadcast Operations at Choice TV. Prior to Choice TV, Morgan spent twelve years at Television New Zealand having worked for TV2 Presentation, Operations and ONE News.
Scott Butler is Head of National Sales & Integration at Choice TV. He has worked in advertising for over 17 years working across both agencies and sales teams in New Zealand, Australia and Canada. Prior to Choice TV Scott spent 5 years working in Sydney as NSW Sales Director for Val Morgan Cinema Network and most recently as a Group Business Director for Stardom Mediavest Sydney.
